Serralves in Light 2026

Serralves in Light returns in 2026 for its 4th edition, inviting the public to explore Serralves Park through an immersive journey that transforms the night landscape into an extraordinary open-air light exhibition. Between art, nature, and technology, this sensory experience reveals new ways of perceiving and inhabiting this unique space, providing an unforgettable visit.

Under the concept "Light vs. Darkness," this edition proposes a route that explores the relationship between light and darkness, revealing new ways of perceiving and inhabiting Serralves Park. Throughout the night, nature, architecture, and landscape become the setting for a permanent dialogue between the visible and the invisible, between presence and mystery, providing a unique experience of enriching the Park.

With creative direction by Nuno Maya, together with the Serralves Park Management, and production by the OCUBO studio, the project asserts itself through the values ??of sustainability, innovation, and creativity. The approximately 2 km route integrates 20 artistic light installations, designed specifically for this context, which use multimedia, interactivity, sound, and visual effects to create surprising luminous universes.

Each installation establishes a unique dialogue with the spaces, flora, and architectural elements of Serralves, modifying the perception of the landscape and providing an experience conceived exclusively for this location. Between revelation and mystery, each intervention invites visitors to discover new ways of experiencing the Park.

Maintaining one of the project's distinctive features, Serralves in Light once again includes an installation developed in co-creation between the creative team and the Educational Service of the Serralves Foundation.

In the 2026 edition, the installation "My Sun" is the result of a collective creative process developed with three classes from the 1st Cycle of Basic Education at the Paulo da Gama, Pasteleira, and Condominhas schools, participants in the ASCEND project, currently under development in collaboration with the Serralves Foundation. This installation presents a space initially immersed in darkness, progressively illuminated by the different "suns" created by the children – metaphors for the inner light of each individual and the capacity to share it with others. The result is a collective installation that celebrates creativity, participation, and the transformative power of education.

The sensory experience of this edition is enriched by an original sound dimension, specially designed for the exhibition. Seven renowned Portuguese musicians – Francisco Rebelo, Gonçalo Garcia dos Santos, Inóspita, Maria João, Noiserv, Pedro Antunes, and Rodrigo Leão – create original compositions that accompany the different installations, exploring the dialogue between sound and silence. Just as light gains meaning through darkness, sound also finds its space for expression in silence. This relationship constitutes one of the central narratives of the exhibition, expanding the emotional and immersive dimension of the visit.

Serralves in Light 2026 thus establishes itself as a unique creative proposal in the city of Porto, inviting visitors of all ages to explore Serralves Park in a nighttime experience where art, nature, technology, and imagination intersect to reveal new ways of seeing, feeling, and inhabiting the landscape.
